Solemn Celebration of the Patron Feast of Saint Sava Church in Toronto

Article by Fr. Jovica Cetkovic

On Sunday, January 25, the patron feast of St. Sava Church in Toronto was celebrated liturgically.

Due to an unprecedented snowstorm that struck Toronto that day, unfortunately His Eminence Metropolitan of Canada Mitrofan, as well as many parishioners and guests, were unable to attend. Nevertheless, those who live closer to the church and were a bit more persistent managed to make their way there. It is a joyful fact that, despite these circumstances, both the church and the hall were quite well filled.

The Divine Liturgy was served by the parish priest, Fr. Jovica Cetkovic, with responses sung by the Kir Stefan the Serb church choir. At the very end of the Liturgy, the Slava bread was blessed. The kumovi of the Slava were Mihailo Trunic, together with his wife Anka and their sons.

After the Liturgy, to the great joy of all parishioners, new crosses were consecrated, which will adorn the church roof for decades to come. The crosses were made and donated to the church by our parishioner Jovan Bozic, with significant support from the members of the Church Board.

In his sermon, Fr. Jovica Cetkovic thanked the donors and reminded all parishioners of the power and strength of unity, pointing precisely to the example of St. Sava and his efforts and work toward achieving unity among the Serbian people.

After the distribution of the antidoron, in the upper hall, the children of our church school and the Strazilovo folklore group, more than thirty of them, presented a St. Sava’s Day program.

The celebration concluded with a festive lunch in the lower hall. Joining the lunch were also the parish priest of the Church of St. Archangel Gabriel in Richmond Hill Fr. Djuradj Kojic, as well as the president of their Church–School Congregation, Miroslav Ubovic.

Thanks be to God for all things!
