History
Despite the fact that a very small number of Orthodox Serbs live in Halifax, the Mother Church does not forget about her children.
The Missionary Parish of St. Basil of Ostrog in Halifax – the easternmost parish of the Diocese of Canada – was founded on December 26, 2001. Responding to the initiative and desire of the Serbs in Halifax, on that day, Canadian Bishop Georgije – accompanied by the first administrator of this parish, Proto-Vicar Ljubomir Rajić from Toronto – visited this small Serbian colony on the Atlantic Ocean. The Holy Hierarchical Liturgy was also served in the premises of the local Greek church, where Serbs in this city meet their religious needs. The first administration of the parish was elected at the founding assembly on December 26, 2001.
The Circle of Serbian Sisters "Holy Martyrs Vera, Love and Hope and their Mother Sophia" was founded in Halifax on January 11, 2002.
