History

Despite the fact that a very small number of Orthodox Serbs live in Halifax, the Mother Church does not forget about her children.

The Missionary Parish of Saint Basil (Vasilije) of Ostrog in Halifax – the easternmost parish of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Canada – was founded on December 26, 2001. Responding to the initiative and desire of the Serbs in Halifax, on that day, Bishop of Canada Georgije – accompanied by the first administrator of this parish Fr. Ljubomir Rajic from Toronto – visited this small Serbian colony on the Atlantic Ocean. The Holy Hierarchical Liturgy was also served in the premises of the local Greek church, where Serbs in this city would meet their religious needs. The first administration of the parish was elected at the founding assembly on December 26, 2001.

The Circle of Serbian Sisters, named after the Holy Martyrs Faith, Love and Hope and their Mother Sophia, was founded in Halifax on January 11, 2002.

Services are usually held at the Saint Antonios Antiochian Orthodox Church (6141 Chebucto Road) or at the Saint Vladimir OCA Church (3163 Purcells Cove Road).
