Parish Feast Day Celebration in Winnipeg
In a prayerful and solemn atmosphere, the parish in Winnipeg once again worthily celebrated its patron saint – Saint Sava, the first Serbian Archbishop, enlightener and spiritual father of the Serbian people. The Holy Liturgy in the parish church was celebrated by Fr. Marko Dimic from Lakeshore, Ontario, who presided over the service, and the local parish priest, Fr. Georgije Tubonjic.
After the prayer from the ambon, priest Marko Dimic blessed the Slava gifts – the kolach and wheat, which this year were prepared by the godparents of the parish Slava, Danijel Gavranovic and his family. The role of godparents for the following year was taken over by the Mandic family, to whom heartfelt gratitude and prayerful wishes for God’s abundant blessings were extended.
At the end of the Holy Liturgy, Fr. Marko Dimic addressed the gathered faithful with an inspired sermon on a gospel theme, also speaking about the importance of Saint Sava as the foundation of church, educational and national identity, calling on those present to live in the spirit of faith, peace and love even today.
After the service, the celebration continued in the parish hall, where a suitable cultural and artistic program was organized. The youngest members of the community performed recitations dedicated to Saint Sava, while the folklore section enriched and embellished this festive day with its performance. A celebratory luncheon was prepared for all those present, which was prepared with great love and care by this year's godfather, Danijel Gavranovic, with his family.
At the very end of the program, the parish priest, Fr. Georgije Tubonjic, greeted the gathered faithful, thanking the godparents, the participants in the program, as well as everyone who contributed in any way to the celebration of the parish feast in joy and unity. In his closing remarks, the parish priest encouraged the faithful to continue to work and fight persistently in the future to preserve their faith, church and community, following the example of Saint Sava.
