Saint Vasilije of Ostrog Serbian School in Vancouver Celebrates Feast Day

Article by school coordinator Ljiljana Toljevic

The Saint Vasilije of Ostrog Serbian School began the celebration of its patron saint, Saint Vasilije of Ostrog the Wonderworker, on Sunday May 10, 2026. The children sang a hymn to the Most Holy Theotokos for the Communion at the Liturgy and all the children received the Holy Sacrament of Communion. As part of the Holy Liturgy, the Slava kolach and wheat were blessed in the presence of children and teachers from the Serbian school. The Slava kolach and wheat was prepared by Aleksandra Pecanac.

After the service, a beautiful Slava lunch was served, which was taken care of by the mothers of the school's students: head chef Zeljana Lazovic, Sanja Nikolic, Nevena Cicovic, Jelena Golijan, Teodora Plavsic, Sladjana Radojicic, Dusanka Kuljic and Mirna Kokot, with the wholehearted help of the sisters of the Kosovka Devojka Circle of Serbian Sisters Zdravka Curic and Petra Forcan. We also owe a big thank you to all the mothers who made and brought the Slava kolaches.

The celebration continued on Monday evening, May 11, when Festive Vespers was served.

On the day of Saint Vasilije of Ostrog, May 12, the Holy Liturgy was served and the Slava kolach and wheat prepared by Teodora Plavsic was blessed.

On this holy and joyful day, Fr. Sinisa Milutinovic offered intercessory prayers at the Liturgy and prayed for God's blessing on the beginning of the fresco painting of our Holy Temple and our fresco painter Aleksandar Vujic.

Happy Slava to our children, teachers and parents, and all Serbs throughout the world, with a prayer to Saint Vasilije to grant us all peace and peace to the entire world.
