Holy Hierarchical Liturgy Celebrated at Saint Nicholas Cathedral in Hamilton

The Cathedral of the Holy Father Nicholas in Hamilton joyfully celebrated its Slava celebration on Sunday December 14, 2025. The Holy Hierarchical Liturgy was served by His Eminence Metropolitan of Canada Dr. Mitrofan, with the concelebration of the competent parish priests Protopresbyter-Stavrophor Dragomir Ninkovic and Protopresbyter Djuro Samac, diocesan deacon Petar Marjanovic, as well as Protopresbyter-Stavrophor Dane Ilievski (MOC). The day was filled with prayer, fellowship, and the presence of many devoted parishioners.

This year, the celebration was further enhanced by the singing at the Liturgy of the church choir, whose heavenly hymns enrich every sacred service. The godparents of this year's Slava were Goran and Jelena Kanlic, together with their sons Kosta and Lazar. Velimir and Gordana Gavrilovic accepted the godparentship for next year. After the Holy Liturgy and the cutting of the Slava kolach, a rich feast of love was prepared. Its organization was taken care of by the hardworking members of the Circle of Serbian Sisters from Hamilton. The delicious Lenten meal was enriched with vegetable soup, which was provided by Marica Kalanic.

During the Slava lunch, the good news was announced that the building permit had been approved and finalized. On this occasion, to the delight of those present, the President of the Building Committee Vlado Sobot addressed the gathering. The priests of the Saint Nicholas Church and School Congregation took the opportunity to sincerely thank all members of the Church and School Congregation, led by President Vesna Pankerichan with her unwavering leadership and commitment to strengthening unity in the community, special guests from the sister church of Saint Nicholas on Barton Street, representatives of Serbian national organizations, volunteers who worked tirelessly to prepare and set up the banquet, as well as all those who never stopped believing.

Saint Nicholas, the great Wonderworker, holds a special place in the hearts of Serbs, with more than 600 Serbian Orthodox churches dedicated to his name. One of the most beloved Christian saints, he continues to inspire and protect travelers, sailors, fishermen, and all who seek his intercession. Through the prayers of Saint Nicholas, may the merciful Lord God grant us His blessing, peace, health, joy, long life, and spiritual strength. Amen.
